Thursday Runaround – Here We Go Missing X-Men In May?

TalentRelationsWatch2: Talking of which – shouldn't someone have told all the people working on Boom's Pixar books that they were now going to be published by Marvel too?

BordersWatch: The Australian Borders went bust yesterday too. And may be having clearance sales by the weekend. No Chapter 11 protection here…

Patil's 2008 debut novel "Kari" and Sarnath Banerjee's "Corridor", published in 2004, are aimed squarely at adult readers, with snake-wielding superheroes replaced by impotent men and androgynous lesbians.

"When I wrote "Corridor" and tried to get publishers interested, no one understood what on earth I was writing about. At times, I felt like a pickle seller, going from place to place, trying to sell my book," Banerjee said.

Today, things have changed, he said. "Everyone wants to make a graphic novel now: jump on the bandwagon."

This is The Bleeding Cool ComicChron Robot speaking. I come for your women. But for now I merely collate comic-related bits and pieces online. One day I will rule. Until that day, read on.

Marvel Gets Pixar

With the acquisition of Marvel by Disney it was probably inevitable that Marvel would get a chance to publish comic material based on the Disney/Pixar stable of characters.  When Boom! Studios stopped soliciting for its Pixar-based comics, the handwriting was on the wall.

What's being sold outside the DM?

According to John Jackson Miller, "including all comics, trades, graphic novels, and magazines, Diamond had sales of approximately $419 million."  Meanwhile, according to Hibbs' BookScan data, sales of comics in the mainstream retail were $172.4 million last year. In other words, BookScan accounted for about 30% of aggregate sales between the two markets.

Where are May's X-titles?

Uncanny X-Men, Uncanny X-Force, New Mutants and X-Men: Legacy are all missing from the May solicitations.

"The Fighter" Screenwriter's Next Round: A Superhero Flick

"I am a comic book guy. I did some work on the first 'Wolverine.' I love comic books and in some ways, because studios are making less dramas, there are a lot of dramatic elements and themes that you can get away with in a superhero movie, like Chris Nolan did in 'Batman', that you couldn't get away with in any other movie. You can do dramatic stuff if it's dealing with all superhero stuff, and that's what I wanted to try to do."

Buy the Batmobile at Fort Lauderdale Auction

The Collector Cars of Fort Lauderdale auction will be held March 4-6. It is expected the Batmobile will fetch anywhere from $200,000 to $275,000 when it comes up for bid. That would be quite a coup because this Batmobile cost Warner Brothers a reported $2.5 million as a promotional vehicle.

Nolan Fans Quickly Debunk Fake Dark Knight Rises Announcement

But while some entertainment websites ran with the announcement, or awaited confirmation from Warner Bros., the fans got to work.

BREAKING: Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa Hired To Rework Spider-Man …

Aguirre-Sacasa is a strong choice. While his credits include most recently writing a new book to the Charles Strouse/Lee Adams musical It's A Plane, It's SUPERMAN! that was a hit at the Dallas Theatre Center, he has also written Spider-Man comics for Marvel. He also writes on the HBO series Big Love and  Aguirre-Sacasa is repped by WME.

STAN LEE reacts to big-screen Spider-Man's new look

"The organic webs which Sam Raimi gave him — and which Jim Cameron also would have given him had he directed the first Spidey film — certainly worked beautifully in the movie, and perhaps allowed for better special effects than my idea of limited webbing might have done."

'300' sequel scoop: Guy Ritchie NOT directing

300 director Zack Snyder, meanwhile, is currently occupied working on the new Superman movie, which is due to start shooting this summer and hit theaters late next year, effectively preventing Snyder from taking the directing reigns of Xerxes until 2012. Whether Xerxes could hold until Snyder would be available is unclear: The project — based, like 300, on a Frank Miller graphic novel — remains in active development but has not yet been greenlit.

Stan Lee Media vs. Stan Lee: Lawsuit Back On, This Time For …

California federal judge Stephen Wilson is allowing the authorities now controlling SLMI to pursue a lawsuit against Lee for improperly transferring the intellectual property rights to many legendary comic book characters including Spider-Man, the Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Iron Man, The Fantastic Four, Thor, and more. On Monday, with Judge Wilson's blessing, the plaintiff filed a new consolidated complaint that alleges that Lee assigned rights to these characters to SLMI in 1998 and then colluded to divert assets to his other companies, QED Productions and Pow! Entertainment, before they eventually wound up in Marvel's hands as the result of a settlement.
