Rob Liefeld Says Goodbye to the X-Men (For Now) With Love Letter to Claremont/Byrne/Austin
A lot of X-Men fans are excited for Jonathan Hickman's upcoming line-wide relaunch, but more discerning fans know that we've already experienced the best X-Men comic 2019 is likely to offer: Rob Liefeld's Major X! Sadly, it looks like, despite a #0 issue hitting stores in August, Liefeld isn't planning to deliver more Major X in the immediate future. Liefeld took to Twitter to reveal that, after 8 more pages, he will no longer be an active participant in the X-Men franchise…
But rather than dwelling on the unfathomable absence of Major X for the latter half of 2019, Liefeld chose to look back to the past at the legendary Uncanny X-Men run of Chris Claremont, John Byrne, and Terry Austin with a series of tweets explaining the importance of the team and its impact on a generation of X-Men fans.
Liefeld would brook no disgreements…
And the superstar creator revealed that nothing in comics has ever surpassed that run…
Though Claremont did put in a pretty good effort with some other collaborators. Isn't it outrageous that Marvel continues to pay him to be Marvel exclusive, but won't allow him to write an ongoing book, instead trotting him out only for short stories in anthologies?
Liefeld also named the only run on X-Men, in his estimation, that came close to those Claremont/Byrne/Austin standards…
