Shining A Spotlight – Alfred Trujillo
Got a great list of names to feature here from one of the board members, so I'm going to start working on getting some of them next week. Today were going to focus on someone you may have seen at one of your local conventions, Alfred Trujillo. Alfred and his wife have been hitting a lot of the cons on the west side of the U.S. where she is just as popular as he is, she's a cosplayer that goes by the name AZ Powergirl. They're a great couple and a lot of fun to chat with. So if you see them at a convention go over and say 'hi'.
Alfred has done work for Zenescope, Big Dog Ink as well as his own book with his wife, Project Shadows. More of his work can be seen here.
BLEEDING COOL: How did you get started drawing?
ALFRED TRUJILLO: I got started drawing when I was five years old. But when I was 12 and living in Pomona I started a class that taught comic art.
BC: Who were your biggest inspirations?
TRUJILLO: My biggest influences are probably J Scott Campbell and Takehiko Inoue.
BC: What is your process for doing a page? How long does it take you?
TRUJILLO: A page of sequential art takes me between 6-10 hours. I start with very loose 3" layouts. Most people look at it like "what the #@&$ is that?" I then transfer to 11×17 and rough it out with a 2h lead holder, lighten the roughs with a kneaded eraser and pencil over that. No inks for me. Usually it goes to color from there.
BC: Where might folks have seen your work previously?
TRUJILLO: My work can be seen in Zenescope Entertainment, Big Dog Ink and Zombies Vs Cheerleaders. I've also done a number of covers for independent books.
BC: What are you working on now?
TRUJILLO: Right now I'm working on title for Big Dog Ink though I can't disclose what title it is at this time. I'm also working on putting out my creator owned book Project Shadows.
BC: What is your dream project?
TRUJILLO: My dream project is drawing Spider-Man (with Black Cat, of course). Not going to lie. My inner five year old is waiting for that.
