The Big, Big Secret Of Valiant's Wrath Of The Eternal Warrior (SPOILERS)
Valiant's next ongoing series – Wrath of the Eternal Warrior by writer Robert Venditti and artist Raul Allen – picks up directly in the aftermath of their much-hyped crossover series Book of Death.
As such, Valiant reps have been preciously protecting the premise of the Eternal Warrior's new series and any potential spoilers related to the end of their biggest event to date. Publicly, they've stated that only that the new series will feature the Eternal Warrior as we've never seen him before and "stranded in a hostile alien environment." But as we now know, that's something of a misdirection…
Late last week, Valiant released advance review copies of Book of Death #4 and Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1, and now, for the first time, we can share the truth about the ending of Book of Death and its (massive) impact on one of Valiant's most visible characters…
Book of Death #4 is a big action issue, featuring the Eternal Warrior's long-awaited confrontation with Master Darque. However, it doesn't all go to plan, as the Eternal Warrior seemingly sustains horrible injuries at the hands of Darque and his minions…
No biggie, right? He is immortal after all. Wrong. The Eternal Warrior, at long last, dies and is released from duty. And while we're led to believe that this is part of some grander cycle, it does appear that the Eternal Warrior won't be coming back this time…
But his journey doesn't end there. As is revealed in the closing pages of the issue, Gilad has fallen…into Hell…
Enter: Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1, which picks up moments after Gilad's death…only to see him awake in his…home?
As we soon find out, while this is indeed the afterlife, it's a place he's visited many times over the years building his special corner of Elysium each time he's fallen in battle. It's also heart-wrenchingly populated all of the trappings of home…including the spirits of his true love and the many, many children that's he's lost over the millennia…
Before long, however, Gilad begins the feel the call of our world, beckoning him to return… And, again, he is forced to leave his family and the peace they represent behind to uphold his duty as the Eternal Warrior…
But, unfortunately, to get there, he's going to have to run through Hell itself. Again…
How's that for a twist? History's most hardened warrior, fighting his way through Hell to return to Earth and the job he was born for… As for where it goes from there, you'll have to keep reading to find out…
Wrath of the Eternal Warrior #1 by Robert Venditti & Raul Allen arrives in stores on November 18th.
