Swipe File: Hostess Glo-Balls Vs Testicles
Have you ever seen anything quite so untempting? Can't you just imagine the meeting. I bet these were the Hostess boss's idea, there's no other explanation.
Boss: We have this new product I'm personally overseeing and I want you to market it! Here's what it looks like.
Salesman: You're going with that cross section image?
Boss: Yes, why?
Salesman: Oh nothing… so what are they called?
Boss: Glo-Balls.
Salesman: Shut up.
Boss: Good isn't it? I thought of it myself.
Salesman: You don't see it do you?
Boss: See what?
Salesman: Never mind… are there any licensing opportunities we can use to distract people from…
Boss: From what?
Salesman: Never mind, just, are there any licensing oportunities.
Boss: Green Lantern?
Salesman: Yes. Perfect. Just hope that Warner doesn't notice.
Boss: Doesn't notice what?
Salesman: How… delicious they are so they'll eat them all themselves.
Boss: No that will never happen. They actually taste disgusting.
Salesman: Do they?
Boss: Kinda… musky.
Salesman: Right.
In Swipe File we present two or more images that resemble each other to some degree. They may be homages, parodies, ironic appropriations, coincidences or works of the lightbox. We trust you, the reader, to make that judgment yourself. If you are unable to do so, please return your eyes to their maker before any further damage is done. The Swipe File doesn't judge, it's interested more in the process of creation, how work influences other work, how new work comes from old, and sometimes how the same ideas emerge simultaneously, as if their time has just come. The Swipe File was named after the advertising industry habit where writers and artist collect images and lines they admire to inspire them in their work. It was swiped from the Comic Journal who originally ran this column, as well as the now defunct Swipe Of The Week website.
