That Time David Letterman Was In An Avengers Comic
Tonight is David Letterman's last night hosting his show, which seems like a good time to remember when Letterman made an appearance in a Marvel Comic as himself. It was in the pages of Avengers #239 in 1983 and it was part of what was known as "Assistant Editor's Month". Letterman had only been on his NBC show for about a year when it happened and the assistant editor in question was Mike Carlin. Now over thirty years later, Letterman is saying farewell and Carlin has posted a letter he received from Letterman as well as a brief comment on his facebook page.

I started on staff at MARVEL COMICS the same week Dave's NBC Show debuted!
A year and half later, we made the Assistant Editors' Month edition of THE AVENGERS happen!
