The Amateurs, From The Professionals
So, yes, this looks rather good.
Conor Stechschulte's debut book The Amateurs is being reprinted by Fantagraphics in May. And more remastered than reprinted, the original self published title from 2011 is getting a bit of a makeover. Watercolour cover art for a start.
One part Samuel Beckett, one part Laurel and Hardy, one part Texas Chainsaw Massacre, this is a story of escalating madness, mystery, slapstick, and violence unlike any you've read before. The 8-page preview below includes the horrifying prologue and introduces Jim and Winston, our protagonists who, after a strange night of sickness, arrive at work and are baffled to find that their butcher shop is as empty as their minds are of how to do their job
Two Butchers arrive at work one morning to find not only that there is no meat in their shop but also that they have forgotten completely how to do their job. Bloody hijinks ensue when two lady customers arrive and the butchers decide to just wing it.
And, as the Fantagraphics keywords say, "Butchers, Meat, Rivers, The Olden Days, Knives, Blood, "Body Horror", Disintegration, Amnesia, Full Frontal Male Nudity, Full Frontal Female Nudity, River, Cruelty to Animals, Human Frailty."
I think we get the picture…
