If you live anywhere near New York City, you are probably aware that Special Edition NYCis running this week on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th of June, but take note that it's actually being held at Pier 94, at 711 12th Ave, New York, NY 10019 instead of the Javits Center this year. Panels will be running both days and about 90 creator guests, not to mention the expanded list of artists alley tallied. If you're in town on Friday, June 6th, there's also a Pre Special Edition NYC party hosted by Z2 Comics and The Beat that night, and if you're looking for evening events, make sure to look at the "afterparties" tab under events for Special Edition since there are several gatherings scheduled.
But there's an event happening in Brooklyn not to be missed as well, so choose wisely. It's the Grand Comics Fest that I very much enjoyed last year as an intimate indie show packed with talent who gathered plenty of foot traffic as well as regular patronage. Founded in 2013 by Pat Dorian, the event is running for one day, Saturday, June 6th, from noon – 8pm at Bird River Studios, 343 Grand Street (Marcy & Havemeyer) Brooklyn, New York. The show is open and free to the public. For more information email grandcomicsfestival@gmail.com. Check out the books and creators for the show by following their Tumblr.
