Uderzo Donates Asterix Art To Charlie Hebdo Appeal, Worth $200,000
This is a majestic page from Asterix And The Laurel Wreath by Goscinny and Uderzo, which has been donated to raise money for the families of those killed in the Charlie Hebdo attacks. Uderzo hardly ever sells his original artwork, so this is a very rare opportunity, including as it does the portrayal of Caesar's palace. The piece will be auctioned on May 15th, estimated to sell for over $200,000.
In other related news, in response to the Je Suis Charlie campaign, Iran has, bizarrely, decided to run a second cartoon contest about the Holocaust. The first time was in response to the Danish cartoons of Mohammed.
As far as I can tell, no one has yet been killed for drawing cartoons about the Holocaust, though. They also have an anti-ISIS cartoon competition as well…
