A Whimsical Book With A Strong Female Lead: The Princess Who Saved Herself

For those of you who don't know, The Princess Who Saved Herself is a children's book that is based on a song by Coulton, and follows the story of Gloria Cheng Epstein Takahara de la Garza Champion. What a mouthful right? The plot centers on how Gloria plays guitar every day, but an evil witch next door doesn't like her playing. So, she does whatever it takes to stop Gloria from playing.
Pak writes an incredibly colorful, whimsical script which definitely holds its own sweet melody. That in combination with Takeshi Miyazawa's beautiful art makes the book a delight to read. Obviously I'm a huge fan of a plot that involves a girl taking care of herself-no other hero needed. That alone is something that we should encourage children to read. A sweet bonus to this book is the fun side characters that Gloria interacts with. I can't get enough of that bee character…
I definitely recommend purchasing a copy of The Princess Who Saved Herself. If you didn't have a chance to support the Kickstarter like me, take the opportunity now. Also, feel free to read about the panel that took place at Special Edition: NYC here.
