Sworn to sell comics for Marvel executives who feared and hated the fact that Fox owned their movie rights, The Uncanny X-Men suffered great indignities, but with a corporate merger on the way, the X-Men can finally get back to doing what they do best: being objectively the best franchise in comics.
Each week, armed with the joy, heartbreak, and frustration of 30+ years of reading X-Men comics, we read every new X-book that comes out, recap the events, provide the historical context so you can read it on Marvel Unlimited, and wonder when Marvel will let Chris Claremont write something again.
It's the way X-Men comics were meant to be read! It's the column that can only be known as…

After the satisfying conclusion to the Mothervine story last issue, X-Men Blue #29 kicks off the Search for Jimmy Hudson. Jimmy, the son of Ultimate Universe Wolverine, was turned into a Poison during the Venomized X-over event. He's now sitting in a bar in Dunwich, California, where the waitress is hitting on him. Some locals approach to hassle Jimmy. When he tries to defuse the tension, one of them breaks a pool cue over his face. So he… er… Poisons out.
Jimmy does manage to regain control before slaughtering the waitress too, but he's definitely not getting lucky tonight. He runs off into the woods, thinking back on all the bad things that have happened to him, when he's confronted by his old teammates in the X-Men Blue — Beast, Cyclops, Angel, Jean Grey, Iceman, and Bloodstorm. They want to help him. Jean, in particular, understands what it's like to be a Poison (see Poison X and Venomized).
Jimmy doesn't want to come home though. He's a Poison now, and Jimmy Hudson is dead. Jean doesn't believe him. She reads his mind and finds he has memories of the Poisons killing X-men and Avengers on other worlds. Poison Jimmy says non-Poison Jimmy's memories will fade eventually, and he attacks the X-Men. Jimmy says his name is just Poison now. He nearly kills Bloodstorm, so Cyclops tells Beast to take him out with Anti-Venom grenades, but Jean insists they can get through to him. That gives him a chance to use his tentacles to gain the upper hand. He says Jean Grey deserves to die. Cyclops tells Poison he can go if he leaves Jean behind. Poison considers it, and this brings back a memory of his friendship with Jean and the X-Men. For a moment, the old Jimmy regains control. The X-Men offer to help him, but Daken arrives out of nowhere and stabs Jimmy through the chest. Never trust a Wolverine to not kill a family member.
Daken has a message for the X-Men:
The Bottom Line
It's a fine start to a new story, and Mothervine gives us every confidence that this one will be good as well. X-Men Blue has grown into a really solid X-book that we hope survives the next relaunch. We could have done with an explanation of the timeline here though (which is to say, after the previous issue, the Venomized event takes place, leading into this issue, but that's not really mentioned in either Venomized or here). How about a caption box?
Well, you can go read Venomized if you want, but it's too new to be on Marvel Unlimited. We did recap every issue here in X-ual Healing though.
