Blizzard Provides Statement Confirming That Tracer Is Lesbian
The news about Tracer's sexuality has circulated for a few days now, ever since she was seen kissing her roommate Emily in the latest Overwatch comic, Reflections. The Overwatch forums in particular have been abuzz with the news, with some pretty wild (and sometimes baffling (and sometimes awful)) arguments going around about the revelation.
The comic did leave a tiny room for interpretation though, and the most coherent question to come out of those arugments in my book has been, 'is Tracer lesbian or bisexual?' Well, Blizzard have now come out and put it down in writing as to make sure there is no ambiguity. She is a lesbian.
In a statement to IGN, they said:
Tracer is a lesbian on the LGBTQ+ spectrum. As in real life, having variety in our characters and their identities and backgrounds helps create a richer and deeper overall fictional universe. From the beginning, we've wanted the universe of Overwatch to feel welcoming and inclusive, and to reflect the diversity of our players around the world. As with any aspect of our characters' backgrounds, their sexuality is just one part of what makes our heroes who they are.
That's a nice sentiment to be sure, and one I can get behind.
