For Some Reason, AT&T Wants To Sell WB Games

You'd think a company like AT&T would be wise to hold onto a money-making division, but for some reason, WB Games is up for sale. The division, which is officially known as Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, is responsible for several major games over the past fifteen years and some of the most influential titles in the industry. Including all of the LEGO games developed by TT Games, Mortal Kombat and Injustice from NetherRealm Studios, until recently the Hitman series from IO Interactive, all of the Batman: Arkham games from Rocksteady Studios, and more. But according to CNBC, AT&T is looking to unload the studio in a deal that could be worth $4 billion. According to sources close to the deal, Take-Two Interactive Software, Electronic Arts, and Activision-Blizzard have all expressed interest in buying the division and all of the assets under it.

As of the time we're writing this article, no other outlet we've seen have been able to get a comment from any of the parties involved. So it really begs the question: why? Why would AT&T want to unload what is essentially the video game division for Warner Bros. as a whole? We understand that the company was looking to sell non-essential divisions of their purchase of Time Warner, but this division puts out video games that do better than many of WB's films and TV shows do. So why get rid of it at the price they're asking for unless they're either looking to have a surplus of cash or they're looking to buy something else. Meanwhile, from a gamer perspective, it sounds like our hopes of seeing Injustice 3 just died unless NetherRealm is already working on it. Plus, depending on what company gets their hands on the division, you could either see things improve or get drastically worse, along with impending layoffs which is pretty much what any company would end up doing to their staff after purchase.

Until we know where things land, it feels like this is going to be a rough time for the folks working for and under the WB Games banner.
