GameStop Will Require Face Masks Starting July 27th

Over the weekend, GameStop announced that they will start requiring customers to wear face masks in the store starting on July 27th. According to the press release they sent out, the new safety measure will be "providing the company time to inform customers of the change, post signage in stores and train associates on the new protocol." This is being done so in response to other major retailers around the country and the world making it a requirement before you can enter their establishment, as a way to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Here's a brief quote from the company about the decision from their CEO.

"We believe this is the right thing to do to ensure the health, safety and well-being of our associates and customers from the growing spread of COVID-19," said George Sherman, chief executive officer for GameStop. "Providing a safe environment in our stores for all customers and store associates continues to be our top priority and wearing a face covering is a simple step every one of us can take to ensure the safety of others in our stores."

The bigger question we have at the moment is why didn't this start sooner? As you may recall, the company was one of the businesses at the forefront of having some of the worst business practices during the pandemic's outbreak in the United States. Which included staying open until they were ordered to close down in some states, as well as telling their employees to wrap their hands in plastic bags while working instead of providing them with gloves and hand sanitizer. It's nice to see them getting on board with other businesses to help slow down the spread, but with everything that's already happened with their own way of handling it, it does feel like they're playing catchup while the spread is at its height.
