God's Trigger is Fast-Paced, Frenetic Fun
Techland and One More Pevel' God's Trigger is a new take on the bullethell genre. You can play solo or with a friend, as there are two playable characters in the game. But, true to the genre, God's Trigger requires you to make split-second decisions, dodge bullets, and use every advantage you have to win.
The game's story is pretty basic. It's a top-down shooter that puts you in control of an angel and demon duo as they attempt to prevent various apocalypses, through gratiutious use of murder and cheesey one-liners.
Between the grimdark premise and the ultra-violence, the game is nearly at the level ofself-parody. And it lives very happily in that space.
Of course, God's Trigger is suitably brutal, especially at low level. After all, the opening levels have you bring a sword to a gunfight and one shot will kill you.
However, the draw here is that the game is basically a playable version of Kill Bill, and that speaks to a wide audience.
The keyboard and mouse controls are easy to get a hang of, and are relatively standard, though you do need to left-click to attack. Other than that, the controls handle well and I ran into no major glitches or issues with the preview build of the game on PC.
So if you're looking for a fast, fun shooter to keep you busy for a few hours, you could definitely do worse than God's Trigger.
God's Trigger releases on Xbox One, PS4, and Steam on April 18, 2019.
