A new report has surfaced about a DLC for Grand Theft Auto V that apparently would have been a game-changer but was canceled due to internal fighting at Rockstar Games. The news comes from a Russian Twitter/X account called PC_Focus, which showed off the entire source code for the game, among other items. The code is nothing new, as it has been traded privately for years among modders, but this time it's a little different as it contained information about a DLC that was in the works for the game.
According to a report about those who searched through the documents, there were a series of emails between The Houser Brothers (Rockstar's founders) and Leslie Benzies (former president of Rockstar North), as well as an unnamed GTAV producer. The two sides had been arguing over new content for the game, as the founders wanted more single-player content while Benzies wanted more online content. Apparently, the fighting led to Benzies taking a hiatus and eventually quitting the company, which led to a lawsuit that was later settled out of court.
After Benzies left, the company started work on Red Dead Redemption 2, but Bully 2 and Midnight Club got the axe without him there to support either project. What's more, it looks like there was going to be an all-new single-player campaign added as DLC to Grand Theft Auto V. This would have included the addition of several new cars and weapons, as well as a new character that's only referred to in the notes as "Agent 14," a new lock-picking mechanic, a greater use of the Ocelot Stromberg (the car that turns into a submarine) and more. When you put all of the pieces together, it sounds like we were going to get a James Bond-type DLC, which more than likely would have enticed a ton of players back to the game. But it now remains one of those "what if" stories about GTAV.
