"Payday 3" Won't Be Coming Out Until At Least 2022
If you're hoping to see Payday 3 anytime soon, you might want to take a break on that as Starbreeze confirmed the game has been set back. The company recently released a new corporate report, which deals with a lot of the fallout from some of their more recent financial issues. For the most part, unless you're interested to see how they're restructuring, there isn't a ton of game news. But one of the few pieces of game news to come from the report was that Payday 3 was getting pushed back until at least 2022.
- Release of Payday 3 estimated to take place in 2022–2023
- Publishing agreement for Payday 3 concluded* during the first half of 2020 and an initial payment instalment is received, after which the continued development of the product is financed by the publishing partner
- Publishing agreement for Payday: Crime War concluded* during the first half of 2020 and an initial payment instalment is received, after which the continued development of the product is financed by the publishing partner
* In conjunction with the signing of these publishing agreements, the possibility of payment to the creditors is created in the ongoing reconstruction work. The payment to the creditors is estimated to be able to amount to approximately SEK 40 million.
For some context, Payday 2 was released clear back in August 2013, meaning that it will be nearly a decade until we see a complete trilogy to the series. Three years ago, Overkill Software managed to get the series back under their umbrella from 505 Games, which made a lot of people suspect we'd see a new game by at least 2018. But after several rumors and failed expectations, as well as financial woes, the thought of getting a new game was almost certainly dead. Well, until today, but now we know it'll be a while before we see anything come to light.
