Resident Evil 2 Will Apparently Have an Auto-Aim Feature
Remember the days where you had to use skills to shoot a gun in Resident Evil 2? They're apparently going away with a rumored auto-aim feature. According to Bloody Disgusting, one of the new features that Capcom is adding into the new version of the game (which they revealed to the foreign press) is an auto-aim feature to help players deal with the threat of zombies who were made just a little more threatening than they were in the past.
Capcom felt that zombies being easily killable and easy to manage would undercut the fear element, and sought for the enemies enemies to be more of a hurdle, rather than an easily-overcome obstacle. That being said, if you want to play the game closer to its original incarnation, there's an optional "auto-aim" mode (that is off by default) which locks onto enemy weakpoints when aiming at them to make zombies take a more definite number of bullets, rather than you relying on your own ability.
Granted, previous incarnations of Resident Evil had a sort-of auto-aim feature, where your character would be drawn to a threat nearby. But it actually required some skill to still aim while avoiding the threat and wasn't an automatic thing, where this feels like it requires zero effort to hit a moving target. Auto-aim feels like they're eliminating the effort of aiming and making it more of an attraction game where you shoot on a rail when needed. We'll see how it actually plays out when Resident Evil 2 is released on January 25th.
