Star Wars: Porg Invasion is the Best Facebook Game Bar None

I have played a lot of games in my life. I have played an absurd amount of some of those games. My play time in Final Fantasy XIV can be counted in months, while my playtime in the franchise as a whole probably constitutes years. I've replayed The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind so many times over the years I've lost track of the number of times I've murdered a critical NPC out of boredom and had to start over from a previous save. I may have also figured out when I no longer need those NPCs and can go back and murder them. I've been gaming for much longer than Facebook has been a gaming platform, though I have whiled away quite a few hours using FB as a games platform. From Marvel: Avengers Alliance to Dragon Age: Legends, I am no stranger to Facebook games. But I think every other Facebook game app developer can go home. We've found the ultimate FB game.

It is possibly the best mobile game ever, but I don't want to be too hasty here.

The game in question is Star Wars: The Last Jedi – Prog Invasion which has a pretty simple set-up. You control BB-8 and try to keep Chewbacca from being swarmed and ultimately mauled by the porgs swarming the Millennium Falcon. Which means this one should appeal to you even if you've gone darkside and decided that porgs are the worst thing to happen to Star Wars since Jar-Jar Binks waddled his racist-stereotype broken dialogue up to Liam Neeson in The Phantom Menace. Because you get to capture porgs in BB-8's claws. And if you love porgs, well, they pop up all over your screen. Including taking over the entire top half of it on occasion.

And the game manages to capitalize on one of the few moments in The Last Jedi that pleased pretty much every audience member – the interactions between Chewbacca and the porgs of Ahch Toh. Whether you were cheering for Chewie to chow down on some roasted porg or sitting there cooing at the sight of a porg taking over co-pilot duties on the Falcon later on in the film, Chewie and the porgs was the sole uplifting dynamic in a film fraught with depressing loss after loss for our Rebel heroes. Which makes it the perfect dynamic to create a simple, casual mobile game on.

And Porg Invasion is absolutely a very simple game, with easy flick controls, and it plays best on mobile through the Facebook Messenger app, but you can play it on your browser as well. The game graphics are all done in a simple hand-drawn style, and the level design doesn't change much, though the difficulty does scale satisfyingly well once you get to about sector 5 and higher.

Porg Invasion is also stupidly engrossing and I will never play another Facebook game. Because it's a great time-waster, allows you to challenge your friends to beat your high score just like a classic Arcade game, and it is cute as hell.
