Call Of Duty: Infinite Warfare Has Some Degree Of Space Flight Control
While not the first time that Call of Duty is going to space, Infinite Warfare is certainly the title that has focused on it most. From the reveal trailer, you can see the there are a lot of ships and space travel, which is a new flavor for the series. But with the campaigns being so set in motion in the franchise, I would have guessed most of the space flight stuff would have been largely on rails.
It seems like that won't be the case though, as there is going to be some degree of control in your cockpit. Speaking to Gamespot, design director Jacob Minkoff said that:
There have been vehicle levels in previous Call of Dutys, but in this game, you are flying your own fighter, which is persistent, which you get to upgrade and personalize over the course of the game. You are ordering your ship, the Retribution, to take you to different targets of opportunity that you get to choose.
He then revealed that in the coarse of the game, you could be on the ground, fighting units, before calling in your fighter to then take the fight to space.
While obviously, it is going to need to have a fair few walls to keep you enclosed, this is promising. Also, integrating your ship with ground warfare sounds fast and exciting. I can't wait to see how that happens in real time.
