Konami Still Committed To AAA Games And Will Continue Metal Gear Solid
This yo-yo of a story just won't quit. If you chart this back to the initial rumour that Hideo Kojima was leaving Konami, I've been writing updates on this story since March. Recently, we've heard that Konami is quitting AAA production, before hearing that they weren't from customer service, and now it is time for another clue in this never ending story has arisen.
In an interview with Game On Daily (via Videogamer) Konami's UK community manager Graham Day, said that Konami are absolutely planning to make more AAA games still, even without Kojima. When asked if Metal Gear could happen without the auteur, he said:
Yeah, course it can. Metal Gear is about the story, it's about the characters.
When asked specifically about Konami's moving away from AAA he said:
Don't believe everything you read in the press.
Things have been taken out of context, but that's never changed. Just because mobile gaming has been embraced, that doesn't mean everything else has to quit. Konami has a history of making the best games around and that is something that will continue. That won't change anything going forward. So people should believe in Konami, and if I was to use a tagline, PES 2016's tagline is 'Love the past, play the future.' And that is there for a reason. The future isn't ending now. The future has a long, long way.
I would genuinely love to see Konami continue to create content from here. Hell, I'd even be interested in a non-Kojima led Metal Gear Solid, just to see what it looked like. I genunley hope Konami keep creating. To see them bow out would be a sad day for the industry.
