Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 Launching Free-To-Play Version
For my money, Pro Evolution Soccer 2016 is one of the strongest sports games of the year. It's certainly the one that has seen the most improvement of the yearly titles and I honestly think the series has surpassed FIFA now, at least in sheer gameplay.
Here is an interesting development though. Konami have confirmed that a free-to-play version of the game is now coming December 8th. This is being descirbed as 'entry level'. It comes with the exhibition mode with access to seven teams, the training mode, as well as access to series answer to Ultimate Team, MyClub. I assume this going free-to-play has a lot to do with MyClub specifically not catching on.
I don't actually think that the idea of a free-to-play sports game is a bad one. It could allow people to invest in what they want, how they want. However. that doesn't mean I have confidence the idea won't be abused down the line. We'll have to see how this plays out.
