Umbrella Corps Announced As A Competitve Resident Evil Multiplayer Game
Well, this is bizarre. A lot has been said about the action-ification of the Resident Evil series over the years. Slowly the series has seemingly abandoned its interest in survival horror, to instead go after a more action orientated vibe.
That seems to have reached peak levels now, as today at Sony's TGS press conference, Capcom announced Umbrella Corps. It's a competitive team based multiplayer game, comeplete with zombies, ice picks and lots of guns. It's a weird mash-up of genre and franchise, truth be told. Take a look at this launch trailer.
I'm not going to condemn this out of the gate, as it looks like there might be some interesting ideas here. I like the fact they called the icepick a 'Brainer', for instance was enough to make me smile. Having said that, I can't see this as reassuring to fans who had hoped the series would go back to its survival horror roots after Resident Evil 6 though.
