Uncharted 4 Was Delayed To Perfect The Ending
Uncharted 4 is said to be the last chapter in the Nathan Drake story. It has been alluded too a few times now, with Naughty Dog hinting they will possibly put the character on a shelf after this (emphasis on possibly).
The desire to nail the ending is what moved the game from out of this year into next too, according to Naughty Dog's Neil Druckmann. Speaking to OPM (via GamesRadar+), Druckmann revealed that the desire to nail Drake's potential send off outweighed the disappointment the delay would cause in the end.
Even when I'm describing the ending, it's a pretty… Well, I guess this is a little bit of a spoil… Nah, I'm not going to say it! But there is something that happens that requires quite a bit of work for what we want it to do. And again, we would have had to reduce that scope and reduce that ambition to meet that [original] deadline.
We were weighing those choices between fans and their expectations. It was going to disappoint them [fans] to push this thing back. But this is the last chapter for Nathan Drake, so let's give ourselves as much time as possible and go all-out for this series.
If this truly is the final farewell to the character, then I certainly back this. Get it right, as opposed to early. Good endings last, getting a game a few months before doesn't.
