Xbox Vice President Wants Cross-Progression Across All Games
Xbox vice president Mike Ybarra wants all games to have cross-progression between platforms, particularly between Xbox and PC.
Microsoft has been making a lot of noise recently surrounding their platform being more open. They have made it very clear that they want cross-platform play between as many consoles as possible, from PC to Nintendo, as well as setting up their own cross-progression and libraries in its Play Anywhere scheme. The company is certainly making some very interesting noise when it comes to the future of gaming in those regards.
It seems they want to push it even further. Taking to Twitter, vice-president of Xbox Mike Ybarra said that he would love to see cross-platform progression for all games on PC and Xbox.
This is already the case for some games. For Microsoft first parties as well as select third-party games part of the Play Anywhere program, you can own the game on both platforms and move your progress at will. It seems he wants to extend that to titles not part of the programme too, and he would like to see it with all games. He said:
This is certainly an interesting idea. There are games I've played on Xbox that I'd love to continue on PC, even if it was only on Steam. This might be complicated though as it might well require deals with numerous companies to make happen, from storefronts like Steam to massive publishers and smaller developer. If it could come true though, I'd certainly love to see it.
