Activision Are Thinking About Doing Call Of Duty Remasters
Remaster culture is very much alive this generation (Sort of in the same way a disease is alive). Hopefully with the Xbox One adopting backwards compatibility, this will become less lucrative for companies, but we will see.
We no know the most successful franchise last generation is at least looking at the possibility of updating its classics now too. Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg, has said. when prompted by GameInformer, that the conversations about potential Call of Duty remasters have happened.
If done well, I think [remasters] can be great," Hirshberg says. "You talk about nostalgia, and people have such connection to the games they love from the last cycle. They want to see what it would look like if someone did it right for this cycle. It's always the opportunity cost, meaning we need every body we can get to make the content we're already committed to for our new games. It's always a matter of finding great people to do that work. I would love to play Modern Warfare 1 or the original Black Ops. There's certainly a deep well there. No announcements, but it's something we talk about and think about a lot.
I have to say, I would probably find it hard to be mad about seeing Modern Warfare...well, modernised. Seeing that campaign in a next-gen context could be quite something, especially if it is a proper top-to-bottom remaster.
At some point you have to draw a line though. It has to happen soon oo. We are well into this generation. We don't want to be leaning back on old catalogues anymore.
