Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D – Follow The Dotted Lines…
By Amanda Gurall
Last week's Agents of Shield (The Writing on the Wall) put an end to three important things: Phil Coulson's (Clark Gregg) burgeoning insanity, the mystery of the wall carvings, and Grant Ward's (Brett Dalton) luscious beard. This season has been moving along at a much quicker pace than the last which is already a welcome improvement. We jumped right into the main storyline which as you know has been deciphering the patterns that have been obsessing Coulson and, as we discover, other SHIELD agents who were given a free trip to a magical place in the form of GH-325. Skye's (Chloe Bennet) friend Micro who sounds like he may be a Punisher shout out led the team to a dead ex-agent with the alien map carved into her flesh. We went on to find out that one of the agents that was treated with GH-325 is killing the others off while they all go mad trying to make sense of the alien writing which Skye has determined to be a map.
Ward is on the run and easily evades SHIELD capture on his way to his date with Hydra at a super secret Massachusetts Dive bar. He ends up killing everyone except for Sunil Bakshi (Simon Kassianides) who he leaves as a gift for Coulson. The aforementioned beard shaving happens and Ward gets back to his Don Draper secret agent best, ready to…what? Is he still a Hydra man looking to take his place in the hierarchy? Is he going to end up somehow loyal to Skye and SHIELD? Or will he play both sides? Who is the bigger sociopath he or his corrupt Senator brother?
The blueprint is that of an advanced city and most speculations are that this will be Attilan, meaning the blue alien they get the GH-325 from is a Kree. Atlantis is another theory I have seen people batting around but it seems pretty likely we will be learning about the Inhumans and that Skye is either an Inhuman or full Kree as not all of them are blue. I like how well the MCU is being integrated into the show and while the Inhumans film will not be out for four more years it could be very interesting to introduce them now and get a bigger picture of how the world at large deals with the social issues between humans and half humans.
This week's much anticipated episode (The Things we Bury) looks like it will have a lot of action and the much anticipated return of Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell). It looks like we will have some great backstory and possibly a reveal of the powers of the Obelisk as well as the further adventures of the insidious Ward brothers. Oh and Fitz? Stay OUT of the memory machine.
