American Gods – A 360° Look At The Crocodile Bar

This is a rather interesting video. Other shows have done 360° look at locations before, but here with American Gods, you get the cast and crew talking about it as you look around. Ricky Whittle (Shadow Moon), Ian McShane, (Mr. Wednesday), Pablo Schreiber (Mad Sweeney) and Bryan Fuller (American Gods showrunner) describe what it was like to shoot in the diver bar where Mad Sweeney and Shadow first meet. Fuller starts by explaining that the scene previous to first seeing the bar is the where Bilquis (Yetide Badaki), in his words, digests a man with her vagina and then they cut to the bar with is an open mouth of a crocodile with lit teeth. Fuller describes it as going from one maw to another.

They go on to talk about the photos on the wall, fighting on the set and having to move Schreiber closer to the dart board because he was a decent throw, but not great. An interesting note, something I hadn't picked up in reading the novel. Schreiber describes Sweeney as Mr. Wednesdays muscle and having spent hundreds of years doing odd jobs for him. I never picked up on the fact that Sweeney worked for Wednesday. Makes me wonder why Sweeney picked the fight in the first place. It's also revealed that the Crocodile Bar was the first set built for the series. And there is a lot of meaning behind the things in the bar. Fuller talks about it as being an alter in a way, fetishizing and worshiping the crocodile. It shows that a whole lot of thought went into the design and placement of everything in the scene. I think it's pretty cool looking and would definitely go there for a drink.
