Captain Marvel: Jude Law In Talks For Male Lead Role (UPDATED)
It's looking like Ant-Man & The Wasp has wrapped, and Avengers 4 is likely a month or less away from wrapping. What does that mean? It's time for some Captain Marvel casting. Production is rumored to start in early 2018, so these next few weeks are going to have a lot of rumored casting. The first was Ben Mendelsohn, and now we have the second — according to Variety, actor Jude Law has entered talks to join the superhero film.
Geneva Robertson-Dworet wrote the most recent script with "Inside Out" scribe Meg LeFauve and Nicole Perlman penning previous drafts, which follows Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the superpowers of strength, energy projection, and flight.
Law's exact role is currently unknown, but Variety is reporting that he is "a mentor of sorts to Danvers as she tries to figure out her new powers." A mentor? Could Law be in the running as Mar-Vell? We'll have to see — but if this casting does happen, that is a great get.
UPDATE: Vairty has updated their story to say that Law is in the running for Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell.
This is Law's second tentpole franchise movie, as he landed the role of young Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beasts sequel due out next year.
Captain Marvel, directed by Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will also star Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson. The film is set for release on March 8th, 2019.
