The Creator Of Condemned Wants To Know If You Want Another In The Series
Condemned is a bit of a cult favorite. The dark and bloody first person game launched with the Xbox 360 and has its fair share of admirers lurking around. Since the sequel Condemned 2 though, the franchise has been deathly silent.
The game's previous caretakers, Monolith Productions, have since moved on to knock Shadow of Mordor out of the park, so it doesn't look like they will be trifling with the franchise again.
Monolith's former CEO and founder Jace Hall currently owns the rights to Condemned and he's now said that he's looking to do something with it. In a Facebook post (via Polygon) he said:
Since I am focused on other things, and will be for quite some time, this franchise is just sitting there.
I am contemplating finding an interested and proven Indie development team AND PROVIDING IT TO THEM, so that they can take over the franchise and move it forward.
As an indie, it can be very hard to get marketing/media attention for a title that you work on. This franchise is already quite known, has market demand, and is in an innovative genre/category.
Should I explore this idea further? What say you all?
That franchise has an audience who want to see more, and the indie route is likely the way to find them. That fanbase isn't likely to be huge, but it will be dedicated. A game with smaller production costs would hardly be a bad thing for the franchise and I expect someone will take Hall up on this offer in no time at all.
