WWE Superstar Paige has had a rough time the past few weeks. After making her long-awaited return to the WWE ring, leading the Absolution faction and heading into the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble match, she found herself injured by a kick to the back from Sasha Banks. According to reports from industry insiders, Paige's in-ring career is done, at least in WWE. The company, in the same way it forced Daniel Bryan to retire after concussion injuries, reportedly will never let Paige wrestle again.
That news was at least partially confirmed last night when WWE revealed that Paige would not compete in the Royal Rumble match due to a neck injury. Speculation on dirt sheets is that she will find a non-wrestling role in WWE, with the company planning to continue to promote her due to the movie based on her life, Fighting With My Family, set for release in September and produced by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. However, social media posts by Paige make no indication that she's planning to hang up her boots. First, there was the Instagram post from last week promising a comeback despite reports that she had been informed by WWE she would not be cleared for a return.
And today she took to Twitter to declare that 2018 would be the Year of Paige.
Is Paige already looking forward to her post-wrestling career, perhaps as a manager, announcer, or in a backstage role? Or is she planning to make a comeback, inside or outside of WWE, just like Daniel Bryan is planning?
We'll have to see what happens, but Paige has never been shy about speaking her mind on social media, so if there's friction between her and WWE regarding her ability to get back in the ring, we're sure we'll be the first to know.
