Departing Warner Exec Spoils Batfleck Release Date; The Batman Confirmed For 2018

The person in charge of the executive bathroom key at Warner Bros is going to be very busy for the rest of the week. Lots of rich old people changed job positions at the company when Greg Silverman stepped down from his position as President of Creative Development and Worldwide Production, leaving a vacancy that was filled by Toby Emmerich, formerly President and COO of New Line. That leaves New Line to be run by President of Production Richard Brener and President of Operations and Content Strategy Carolyn Blackwood.

If you have no idea who any of those people, and those positions all sound kind of the same, that's just because you don't understand anything about Hollywood, babe. Those are all very valuable positions that don't just involve sitting with your feet on the desk in a luxurious office while tossing balled up pieces of paper into a garbage can. Far more valuable, for instance, than all the staff Warner Bros laid off over the past few years.

According to Deadline, who interviewed Greg Silverman about his departure, he's not being forced out, but rather is leaving to follow his dreams: starting a new business venture to "a fund-based enterprise that will generate film and television properties but also involve investments in tech companies and start-ups, and opportunities in China."

Uh, sounds like a blast.

Now that you've eaten your vegetables by reading news about Hollywood studio executives that nobody really cares about, you can have the meat: Ben Affleck's Batman movie has been confirmed for 2018, according to Greg Silverman's exit statement.

No, it didn't go like this:

Instead, Silverman ran down the upcoming movie slate:

Next year, Batman Lego looks like a monster, and King Kong looks like a global hit and we have Chris Nolan's Dunkirk, and King Arthur, and Wonder Woman, which is such a joy for the studio and fans. Zack Snyder's Justice League is a big film, and there are others like CHiPS, which feels like a real franchise for the studio. And Toby Emmerich's films are also really humming.

Then in 2018, there is a second Fantastic Beasts film, and Ready Player One feels like an ambitious movie by the world's best filmmaker, Steven Spielberg, that will set the world on fire. There is Aquaman with James Wan, and Scooby Doo will be a huge launch and then there is Lego Ninjago. And then there is Ben Affleck's Batman.

And now we have confirmation, as previously expected due to Justice League delays, that Batman will be out sometime in 2018. At the same time, Affleck will reportedly be taking his time to "get the story right" for the movie… as long as he doesn't take too much time for it to be ready by 2018.
