Doctor Who Christmas Special Teased Tonight In New York (VIDEO)
By Amanda Gurall
We were given a teaser about the Doctor Who Christmas special today at NYCC including the reveal of a new character, the superhero Grant played by Justin Chatwin (Shameless). Matt Lucas (Little Britain) returns for the special and will stay around into the full season which is rumored to possibly air in April. Showrunner Moffat (Sherlock, Coupling) said that it would be great if Doctor had some kind of valet or butler who wouldn't be very obedient or polite and this is what we should expect in the sort-of companion Lucas.
Moffat also talked about his adoration of Superman and how he went out dressed as a self styled hero "Red Rat" as a child looking for crime until he realized that he was a six year old and should do probably go home. He was further disappointed that all of his friends recognized him immediately and were less than impressed with his backwards Batman cape and cowboy hat. They all seem very excited to play with the superhero genre so hopefully that enthusiasm gives the fans a fun episode.
Star Peter Capaldi said, "They used to show it Christmas Day-a special movie. My favorite was when they played Superman. I think we've made a new, witty, ironic and good hearted superhero movie."
Executive Producer Brian Minchin added, "We all love the show this year! What Steven Peter and Matt have done, this is the best kind of film for Christmas day with joy and love and terror."
