Ethan Hunt Faces His Biggest Fears in Mission: Impossible – Fallout
When filming on Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation, wrapped director Christopher McQuarrie thought to himself, "I feel sorry for the guy who has to direct the next Mission." That guy turned out to be himself, which means he was going into Mission: Impossible – Fallout knowing he had to one-up himself. A lot has already been made about the stunts, but McQuarrie spoke to USA Today about the story and how this one puts Ethan Hunt in a new position.
"Unlike other Missions where Ethan knows he is right, this time he prays he is wrong," McQuarrie says. "The fallout of these events ultimately brings him face to face with his deepest fears."
We also get a new character this time: CIA agent August Walker, as played by Superman himself, Henry Cavill. And from what McQuarrie says, these Walker and Hunt do not like each other. At all.
"Each man disapproves of the other man's methods. Each views the other as the problem rather than the solution. It is a relationship built on mutual distrust, which escalates throughout the film until it finally comes to a head."
Note that McQuarrie doesn't say that Walker is a straight-up villain, which is interesting. We also have a new image of what appears to be Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt hanging off of a net suspended in the air, because of course he is.
Summary: Ethan Hunt and his IMF team, along with some familiar allies, race against time after a mission gone wrong.
Mission: Impossible Fallout, directed by Christoper McQuarrie, stars Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Cavill, Vanessa Kirby, Alec Baldwin, and Angela Bassett. It will be released on July 27th.
