Fans of Lois Lowry's The Giver were left skeptical following the first trailer for Jeff Bridges' long gestating adaptation of the classic YA novel, but it appears this new featurette has been released just to alleviate some of the doubts that first impression left.
So, phew, yes, this movie will be in black and white, or at least part of it. The lack of color is such a huge part of the book that it really would have made little sense to deliberately leave that out.
The bulk of this featurette is Lowry herself talking about what led her to write the book, and focuses on a long scene between Bridges' Giver and Brenton Thwaites as the Receiver, the new person in their seemingly utopian society chosen to bear all the memories of humanity at its worst. And that, too, looks fairly faithful to the source material.
The Giver will be released on August 15th in the US, no UK date yet.
