Sarah Michelle Gellar Talks I Know What You Did Last Summer Return

Sarah Michelle Gellar shared that even with talk of her character's return to I Know What You Did Last Summer, Helen Shivers is "Dead Dead"

If you're like us and love a good slasher flick, the '90s title I Know What You Did Last Summer has remained one of your favorites for decades. It has jump scares, just the right amount of cheesy twists, and everything that a slasher film thrives with — so its upcoming return to a legacy-inspired sequel (similarly to Scream) feels like the most off-the-wall, perfect horror sequel to lock in. But with talks of revisiting something, there are always discussions about revising previous events (whether good or bad).

In a recent interview with the one and only Sarah Michelle Gellar, who starred in the first film as fan-favorite Helen Shivers, the star was asked about her interest in returning for the next movie, which of course, led to her sticking to Helen's fate and sharing another connection aside from her husband's leading role.

Sarah Michelle Gellar Says Helen Shivers is (Still) Dead

Gellar tells ET, "That's funny; I heard that news as well. And one of my best friends [Jennifer Kaytin Robinson] is directing it. It's interesting, isn't it?" Then teasing that the conversation about a Helen Shivers reprisal actually did occur behind the scenes, Gellar shared, "As I explained to Jennifer, I am dead. I am dead, dead. On ice. She's like, 'Are you sure you're dead?' I'm like, 'It's soap dish dead. I don't have a head. You can't write for someone that doesn't have a head. I'm dead.'"

While the idea of enlisting the entire original cast under an entirely different premise is still interesting due to star power alone, Gellar's intelligent choice to stick to continuity has always been a preference for fans of the horror genre anyways. Unless, of course, your Kirby Reed in Scream VI, because that was an often debated change that really needed to happen.

With the franchise getting a proper third installment, do you think the next entry will choose to ignore or acknowledge the events of its sequel, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer? Sound off below!
