Let's Go To Wakanda: First Trailer For Black Panther
LETS GO TO WAKANDA!!
Today, Marvel released the first trailer for their upcoming Black Panther solo film during the NBA round 4 finals. If you missed it when it aired, here it is:
Chadwick Boseman is back as newly crowned king of Wakanda after his character's first appearance in Captain America: Civil War in 2016. This will the royal clawed hero's first solo live action film, and the good Marvel fanboys and girls have been pretty excited since the tease at the end of Civil War.
Ryan Coogler (Creed, Fruitvale Station) is in the director's chair, and all signs point to a passion project for him. During a recent interview with Fast Company, Coogler said:
"It's going to be my most personal movie to date, which is crazy to say, but it's completely the case. I'm obsessed with this character and this story right now, and I think it's going to be very unique and still fit into the overall narrative that they're establishing. I grew up as a comic book fan, and the same things used to happen in the comic books. You'd have Wolverine's books, and they'd be so much darker and more brutal than the X-Men books, but they'd still fit in when you open the pages of the X-Men book. It's new to movies, but it's not new to storytelling."
That sounds incredibly promising, and judging from what we see in the trailer, this could be a game changer for the MCU, especially stylistically.
Michael B. Jordan gets his second chance at playing a Marvel character, as he was previously seen in that Josh Trank travesty of a Fantastic Four movie as Johnny Storm. Lupita NyOng'o will be playing Nakia, one of T'Challa's companions who may or may not take on the mantle of Malice, a Black Panther comics villain. Danai Gurira (Michonne from The Walking Dead) will be playing Dora Milaje, another of the royal companions for the Wakandan King. Angela Bassett will be playing Ramonda, T'Challa's mother and former Queen of Wakanda. Forest Whitaker (Platoon, Last King Of Scotland), Daniel Kaluuya (Get Out, Sicario), John Kani will be reprising his role of King T'Chaka, and Andy Serkis and Martin Freeman are on cast as well.
Black Panther is set for a February 16th 2018 worldwide opening.
