Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta Gets A New Mode, Maps And Weapons
I've actually not been able to look into the response to the Halo 5: Guardians beta. It just hasn't come across my field of view on the internet since it started last week. The gameplay did add new mechanics though, so I wouldn't be surprised if parts of the hardcore community are complaining about those. I know a lot of people hated the changes made in the Halo 4 online multiplayer, but honestly, they were right up my street.
Well, regardless of how people are reacting, it's great to see that 343i announced new maps and game modes coming this week. The game mode is Breakout, which is the first time it has ever appeared in Halo. The mode has you start with one life while you and your team fight through 5 rounds trying to wipe out the other team. That basically sounds like the default game mode in Gears of War's multiplayer. Halo seems like it might be a little too frenetic to really let that work, but we will see how it goes down with the community.
343 are also adding a few maps and variants to the test too. They outlined them as:
There will also be two new maps swapped into the Slayer playlist: Regret and Eden. Regret is a remix of Truth, and Eden is a remix of Empire, both of which were included in week 1.
The developer has also said that a new Halo weapon called the Hydra MLRS will appear on the Regret.
The support for this beta by the developer so far seems to have been great, and I do believe that community feedback will be important to improving the game. This wasn't like a lot of betas last year that happened a week or two before launch. 343 still have plenty of time to implement these changes.
If you've got an Xbox One and Halo: The Master Chief Collection you can go jump into the Halo 5 beta for free now! Go have fun for me.
