HBO And BBC Co-Producing Miniseries Based On JK Rowling's The Casual Vacancy
So it looks like JK Rowling was wrong after all about her first non-Harry Potter novel, The Casual Vacancy, not being a very filmable book.
Actually, it's so filmable that HBO and BBC both want in on it, and will be co-producing a 3 episode miniseries adaptation, which will begin filming this summer. Sarah Phelps adapted it, and it will be directed by Jonny Campbell.
Set in a small English village, the conflict in the novel arises with the death of the town's beloved Parish Councillor Barry Fairbrother. The vacancy on the council leads to factions forming and potential candidates' deepest, darkest secrets being revealed.
