Hit Man: First Teaser And 4 Images For The New Richard Linklater Film

Netflix has released the first teaser and 4 images from the new Richard Linklater film Hit Man. It stars Glen Powell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Linklater.

Article Summary

  • Netflix drops teaser and new images for Richard Linklater's Hit Man, eyed for June release.
  • Glen Powell stars and co-writes this action comedy, transforming into a fake hit man.
  • Linklater's film entangles crime with romantic deception.
  • Sunlit neo-noir Hit Man spins a tale of identity, debuting exclusively on Netflix.

While we give Netflix a hard time, rightfully, for its original movies and the varying quality they tend to have, the streamer sometimes picks up films with a lot of promise from the festival scene. Whether or not they have the marketing budget to make that festival pick get in front of any audience members is another story. Still, they are known for jumping in with two feet at places like Sundance and the Toronto International Film Festival. Hit Man was one of the films they picked up at TIFF in September of last year, following a Venice Film Festival premiere the week before. This is the new action comedy co-produced and directed by Richard Linklater with a screenplay by Linklater and star Glen Powell. It's reportedly based on an article by Skip Hollandsworth that appeared in Texas Monthly. Netflix tends to only market things a month or so before they come out, so the fact that we are getting a teaser for this one and it's coming out in June is promising. Maybe Netflix will finally give some of its films the marketing pushes they deserve so they stand a chance in hell.

Hit Man: Summary, Cast List, Release Date

Oscar-nominated director Richard Linklater's sunlit neo-noir stars Glen Powell as strait-laced professor Gary Johnson, who moonlights as a fake hit man for the New Orleans Police Department. Preternaturally gifted at inhabiting different guises and personalities to catch hapless people hoping to bump off their enemies, Gary descends into morally dubious territory when he finds himself attracted to one of those potential criminals, a beautiful young woman named Madison (Adria Arjona). As Madison falls for one of Gary's hit man personas — the mysteriously sexy Ron — their steamy affair sets off a chain reaction of play acting, deception, and escalating stakes. Co-written by Linklater and Powell and inspired by an unbelievable true story, Hit Man is a cleverly existential comedy about identity. It will be released on June 7, 2024.
