Idris Elba Doesn't Know What's Going On With The Dark Tower Franchise

The future of The Dark Tower is very much up in the air. After critics savaged the movie, it got its butt kicked by a low-grade comedy for most of the month of August. Now It has come on the scene as a Stephen King adaptation with zero star power and is a critical and audience smash hit. There was an entire franchise planned for The Dark Tower, including a television show, so what's the future looking like for the series? Star Idris Elba recently spoke to Mashable about it:

"Yeah, I don't actually know, if I'm really honest. I do know about the TV series and I'm not sure where we are with that, but I couldn't tell you what's going to happen next. As you know the film was sort of mixed reviews, and some loved it and I think some hated it, so who knows."

When asked if the negative press got him down, Elba brushed it off as everyone having an opinion and cited how hard the book is to adapt overall:

"Ultimately, everyone has an opinion and that's okay. But I'd imagine with a film like The Dark Tower—if you know anything about the literature—it's a very hard book to digest, and it's definitely a hard book to adapt. Until one of the reviewers that had something to say adapts it and does a great job, well I don't want to hear what they have to say."

It's a bit too early to say whether or not this series is going to continue, but we'll likely know the future of this franchise within the next six months or so.

Summary: The Gunslinger, Roland Deschain, roams an Old West-like landscape where "the world has moved on" in pursuit of the man in black. Also searching for the fabled Dark Tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.

The Dark Tower, directed by Nikolaj Arcel, stars Idris Elba, Katheryn Winnick, Matthew McConaughey, Jackie Earl Haley, and Tom Taylor.
