Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Release Date Moves Up 2 Weeks
Disney and 20th Century Studios have moved the release date for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes up two weeks from May 24th to May 10th.
Article Summary
- Disney moves 'Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes' release from May 24 to May 10.
- Avoids box office clash with 'The Garfield Movie' and 'Furiosa.'
- Shift viewed as beneficial for whole film industry, not just Disney.
- Change follows recent release date adjustments by Sony and WB Discovery.
We all knew it was only a matter of time before one of the movies set to come out on May 24th moved its release date. The Garfield Movie, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, and Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes were all going to be fighting for a spot, and no one thought that was a good idea. It appears that the studios didn't think it was a good idea either, and, in a change of pace from recent years, it was Disney who decided to shift a release date away from a Warner Bros. Discovery movie instead of the other way around. Today, it was announced that Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes would be shifting its release date from May 24th to May 10th.
There have been a few release day shifts from Sony and Warner Bros. Discovery in the last couple of days. Moving Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is a good idea for everyone, not just Disney, because, despite some people's "console wars" mentality, the movie industry is essentially a "when one succeeds, we all succeed" business. That's why we see studios congratulating each other when records are beaten or when everyone was praising Free Guy at 2021 CinemaCon because it was the first hint that theaters were recovering. Massive bombs are bad for everyone, so giving these big blockbusters room to breathe is a win all around.
