Disney has released the Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride clip and a behind-the-scenes featurette that spotlights the film's music.

Article Summary

  • Disney debuts a new Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride clip from the live-action Lilo & Stitch remake
  • A behind-the-scenes featurette reveals the approach to updating the film's beloved music and vocals
  • Iam Tongi, American Idol winner, provides vocals for the reimagined Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride
  • Early ticket sales show strong optimism for Lilo & Stitch

Well, things are really looking good for the live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch. We have been saying for a while now that this film will probably be either the thing that saves the live-action remake thing or the thing that kills it completely, and judging from the early ticket sales? We will get more live-action remakes, whether we want them or not. However, in a move that seems rare for a Disney production these days, and with fans that often don't know what they even want, people seem very optimistic about this film and only get more excited as more footage drops.

It's unclear just how much footage Disney will show before the end of the month, and they haven't revealed characters like Jumba or Pleakley yet, but my spidey senses tell me they will show up in a character poster sometime soon. We're still good for now and have some more footage. Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride is an awesome scene that they needed to nail to get this production to work, and they released some of it for us to see. Stitch looks like himself, but he also seems like something that could exist in the real world, which is the fine line this movie is trying to walk.

And you can't talk Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride without talking about the music of Lilo & Stitch in general. Disney released a pretty long and detailed behind-the-scenes featurette that details how the crew approached this iconic music. In this case, it was a mix of bringing back some familiar faces, like Mark Kealiʻi Hoʻomalu and The Kamehameha School's Children's Chorus, but also bringing on some new faces. Iam Tongi will be familiar to anyone who has watched American Idol in the last couple of years because he won season 21 in 2023. In the Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride we just watched, those are Tongi's vocals. And there will be plenty of Elvis Presley. This kind of balance between the old and the new is how you keep the rapid, old school Disney fans from losing their damn minds, while also bringing in new voices and talent to this new film. The line this remake is walking appears to be working, judging by those ticket sales, so maybe this one will become the new blueprint for remakes going forward.
