Marvel 101 Focuses On The Live-Action Luke Cage And Iron Fist
Both created in the '70s to take advantage of the popular cinema genres at the time, Power Man and Iron Fist didn't really become popular until they joined together to for Heroes For Hire. Luke Cage, created in 1972 by Archie Goodwin and John Romita, Sr., and Danny Rand, created in 1974 by Roy Thomas and Gil Kane, had their own series on the verge of cancellation when Marvel decided in 1978 to put them into one title. The two characters have been linked together for almost 40 years now, and we've got live-action versions of both played by Mike Colter and Finn Jones.
Like in the comics, both characters have debuted in their own series on Netflix. Luke Cage spun out of Marvel's Jessica Jones to protect the streets of Harlem against Cottonmouth (Mahershala Ali) and Diamondback (Erik LaRay Harvey) in his own series, while the Iron Fist left the mystical city of K'un L'un to return to New York and claim his birthright only to find that his enemy, the Hand, has been part of his life all along. And now the two have come together along with Jessica Jones and Daredevil in Marvel's The Defenders.
Both characters have had second solo seasons approved, but the camaraderie between them started to show in the Defenders, and it still seems possible that the two series will merge together to Heroes For Hire. It looks like Colleen Wing (Jessice Henwick) and Misty Knight (Simone Missick) could get together to form the Daughters of the Dragon, too.
The videos are pretty good primers for anyone wanting to watch The Defenders without taking the time to watch Luke Cage or Iron Fist first.
Marvel's Iron Fist, Marvel's Luke Cage, and Marvel's The Defenders are all available on Netflix now.
