Marvel Gives Yo-Yo Her Own Digital Mini Series In 'Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot'
There have been a lot of people, myself included, a little bummed that Marvel seems to have abandoned the idea of doing shorts. They were fun little ways of expanding the universe. However, it looks like we might have an idea of how Marvel is going to approach the shorts going forward.
ABC announced that Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez will be getting her own digital spinoff called Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot that will air exclusively on ABC.com and the ABC app on December 13th. The digital mini series will be six episodes long that will be three to six minutes each and ABC released the following summary of the mini series.
Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot takes place shortly before the beginning of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Season 4. The digital series features Elena "Yo-Yo" Rodriguez, an Inhuman with the ability to move at super-speed. As a person with powers, she must sign the Sokovia Accords. However, the restrictions of the Accords are in direct conflict with a personal mission she's desperate to fulfill, one that will test her abilities and will include tense encounters with S.H.I.E.L.D. team members.
This appears to be the first time we will really see the ramifications of the Sokovia Accords on a ground level with people that aren't an Avenger.
You can watch the first trailer for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Slingshot on ABC.com and an interview with Natalia Cordova-Buckley about the series. Neither of the videos are currently on youtube though we will update this post once they are.
Is this the model for expanding the Marvel universe in small ways going forward?
