Michael Bay Defends Decision To Drape Nazi Flags Across Winston Churchill's Birth Palace For Transformers: The Last Knight

michael bayThere has been a storm in a teacup brewing about Michael Bay adorning Blenheim Palace, or Winston Churchill's birthplace, with Nazi flags forTransformers: The Last Knight. The Sun ran the pretty provocative pictures the other day, and unsurprisingly riled up some of their readers.

Well, Michael Bay has come out to respond to the criticism in an interview with the BBC. In it, he says that the portrayal will show Sir Winston in a great light, and that people should wait to see what happens in the film. He said:

I would do nothing to disrespect veterans.

People have not been fortunate enough to read the script and they don't know that Churchill in this movie is a big hero. Churchill would be smiling.

When you see the movie you'll understand.

Editorialising, as a boy who grew up next door to the palace, and Churchil always feeling like an ever present historical figure, all I can muster our of this is… it's a movie. A movie made by Michael Bay, who has a pretty established track record when it comes to being jingoistic about the West. The original image could be shocking to some I suppose, but the second any ammount of context is applied, it falls away.
