Mondo Releases Original Anime Ghost In The Shell Steelbook Today
At the end of the month, we're going to be getting a live-action adaptation of Ghost in the Shell starring Scarlett Johansson. The casting of Johansson has been quite controversial… but that's not what we're going to talk about here. In 1995, director Mamoru Oshii was the first to adapt the manga story by Masamume Shirow into an anime film classic. The story tackles complex concepts about existence and the soul/ghost. Questions that mankind may have to address in reality as artificial intelligence and robotics continue to advance. The film is considered one of the best Japanese animation films of all time. The cybernetic thriller looks at humanity through the eyes of one who questions their own existence and takes the time to see the beauty in the world. I remember seeing it for the first time in the mid-90's and being struck by just how beautiful the film was. I watched the film again last night, and it was just as beautiful. This is an anime classic and should be part of any fans collection.
Mondo x Steelbook and Anchor Bay are releasing a new edition of Ghost in the Shell into shops today. It features the art of Kilian Eng from a 25th anniversary poster Mondo debuted at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con.
