New Poster And TV Spot For 'Dunkirk'
We're seeing another trapped pilot nearly drown for the second time in so many months. Warner Bros has released another TV spot for Dunkirk. This one is titled BREATHE and continues to cover small aspects of battle. In this case it's taking a breath right before you're dragged under water from your shot down plane.
Dunkirk looks pretty fantastic but these very short TV spots have been odd as far as marketing goes. I suppose the point is to make it seem like we've seem a ton of footage when we really haven't. They are doing a very good job of capturing the feeling of desperation that comes with this story. There is a ticketing clock and the short bursts of actions in the mini TV spots really emphasize that. It's an interesting model if nothing else.
Warner Bros also released a new poster which, again, emphasizes that desperation.
It's going to be interesting what kind of tone this movie will take overall. There isn't much of a middle ground for war movies; it's either "war is hell" or "war is heroic". In a movie like this over the top heroics and patriotism would feel out of place. These are just a bunch of men, young and old, who want to go home but are trapped. Director Christopher Nolan is probably the right person for this type of war movie since there isn't much rooms for the type of movie heroes other directors try to insert into war movies.
Summary: Allied soldiers from Belgium, the British Empire, Canada, and France are surrounded by the German army and evacuated during a fierce battle in World War II.
Dunkirk will be directed by Christopher Nolan and stars Tom Hardy Cillian Murphy, Kenneth Branagh, James D'Arcy, and Mark Rylance. It will be released on July 21, 2017.
