Resident Evil 6 Rumored To Be Final Installment Of Franchise, May Be Titled The Final Chapter

Resident Evil

This is a two-part rumor that basically confirms itself if one part turns out to be true. Collider are reporting that the next installment of the Resident Evil franchise – this would be #6 – will be the last, and accordingly, will be subtitled The Final Chapter. Would be kinda hard to continue a franchise if that title holds up.

Collider got the scoop from franchise director Paul W. S. Anderson, who is currently writing the script, himself. According to some of these Anderson quotes, the film is definitely happening, though there is no specific timeline just yet:

There are no set dates for shooting yet. I think we're waiting until we have a first draft screenplay and then go from there.

And while in the end it may not end up being called The Final Chapter after all, Anderson is writing it as if it will be the last Resident Evil movie:

That's what's on the title page, it's Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, so absolutely.

He's mum on plot details, though I'm sure we can imagine it will involve Milla Jojovich kicking zombie ass, but he does reveal he's writing the script with filming it in 3D in mind:

I firmly believe that you have to start thinking about the 3D even in the writing process. You cannot make a great 3D movie by just—it's not some special sauce that you can sprinkle on. You make the dish and then you make hot sauce on top—it doesn't work well like that. Yes, you can do a last minute conversion. You can not shoot the movie thinking about 3D and do a last minute conversion and it can be a 3D movie, it's just not gonna be a great 3D movie. I approach my films right from the inception, I kind of write action scenes and pick out locations that I think and know—because I've done so much of it—will translate very well into 3D. Then when we build the sets, we build sets that I know will shoot well in 3D. It's really, even from this point, 3D is something I'm definitely thinking about.
