Riverdale Sizzle Reel Adds Some Pretty Heavy Symbolism
The reviews on the first season of Riverdale have been extremely good with the show receiving a Teen Choice Nomination yesterday for by Drama TV Show and by Drama TV Actor for Cole Sprouse. The series takes the familiar characters from the Archie Comics and places them in a more adult theme, dark and twisted drama that seems to be half Beverly Hills 90210 and half Twin Peaks. This dark, subversive take on the historically family friendly characters was created by Roberto Aguirre-Sscasa and produced by Greg Berlanti originally for Fox, but moved over to CW where it has found a good home.
Now the the season has wrapped up, the CW is pushing to get folks who didn't jump on early to watch it from the beginning and has released a video for that. The sizzle real is pretty cool, not only because it gives the best sense of the show from anything I've seen, but it also has some very symbolism driven scenes in the opening with Archie's (K.J. Apa) letterman's jacket becoming a straight jacket, Betty's (Lili Reinhart) becoming sealed shut and Veronica (Camila Mendes) being choke by her own strand of pearls.
Be warned, this gives away some of the series surprises.
